Wow! The last year “twirled” by really fast. Just a quick update of what’s going on at baton.

Congratulations to Kiera, Chloe, Brigitte, Kayla, and Sara for representing Saskatchewan and Canada at the 30th World Baton Twirling Championships in Bergen, Norway this past summer! Kiera came home with a 4th place and Chloe 13th in the Junior Women Freestyle event. Kayla came in 18th and Sara in 12th for the Senior Women’s Freestyle. And both our pairs finished in 4th!

The Escalate to Excellence Clinic and SBTA Annual Awards Banquet was held  in Saskatoon at the beginning of October. Clinicians Jean Michel from France, Kathy Forsyth from United States, Leisha from Manitoba, and Kyla Wilson from Ontario came to share their expertise. Thanks to SMI and OTC for organizing a great clinic!

There are lots of exciting events to look forward to this year. Regular competitions, Provincials in Regina, International Cup Qualifier in Calgary, Canadians in Winnipeg, and International Cup in Jacksonville (hot and sunny Florida)!

I wish you all the best this year. Set goals for yourself and remember…”Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them — a desire, a dream, a vision.” Muhammad Ali

Here is a news article that is a definite read. The Leader-Post in Regina featured Muzuki Kuwaharai, a Japanese exchange student who twirls with SOBG. Back home, she twirls baton with her Kyoto team. While Mizuki is on exchange in Canada, she is working hard on her skills and has improved in many ways. Congratulations Mizuki!

Filed under: Uncategorized — whatsgoingonatbaton @ 3:56 PM

Hello Twirlers!

Provincials are this weekend (May 7th-9th) in Saskatoon! It’s going to be a fun weekend with amazing individual and group performances. Team Saskatchewan will be made up of qualifying freestylists, pairs, and team members who will represent Saskatchewan at the Canadian Team Trials. Keep your goals in mind and remember to stay positive and believe in yourself. I know you have all been training really hard and the judges are going to be blown away by your routines. Some things may not turn out the way you expect them to, but keep a smile on and look on the bright side…you get to show so many people what an awesome talent you have. You’re all fantastic twirlers that can do so many things that others can’t. And that is a reward in itself. Congratulations for competing at the Saskatchewan Provincial Championships! You’re all champions. Good luck this weekend and most importantly…HAVE FUN! :)

Twirl your heart out!
